Acknowledgments & Shout Outs

The 20 Greatest teams of the 2000's was not an easy project. It was a random idea I came up with to help pass the time in the Summer, and maybe add some talk and banter for the dull football-less Summer. I think the list has accomplished just that.  I understand people may view things differently than I did. I certainly missed some teams basically for lack of knowledge.  I tried to gather opinions and input from all, but the fact of the matter is, I did not know how good some of the teams were.  I tried to be objective and fair as well. 19 of the 20 teams on this list won a championship. They can stake their claim to be near the top of the list just as much as anyone. I tried my best to keep this thing interesting and diverse.  So, Thank You. Thank You for the input and criticism from all that read these breakdowns. I was certainly surprised at the talk it stirred.

First off, Thanks to the D6 Sports Network  (Dan & Brad) for all the help and insight you provided to the making of the list. Your words are always trusted and respected.

Thanks to Scott Lewis and Ross Carpenter for their knowledge of Forest Hills Football and other teams from the area. They definitely made some big contributions when the internet could not help me.

Thanks to Eaglealum of Bleachercoaches for all the facts and personal opinions about Tyrone Football.  Tyrone is such a great Football community and they had three of their teams crack the top ten. All worthy of being near the top.

Thanks to Doug Keklak of Trojan nation for all the help on the Johnstown Football teams. Doug knows his JHS athletics unlike anyone else. His site is a great read for any Football fan, be sure to check it out.

Also I'd like to shout out to some teams that did not crack the Top 20.

-2003 Huntingdon.  Well of anyone, they may be the largest snub. Huntingdon was 11-1 and defeated Johnstown with LaRod by a 9-6 margin. They lost in the state playoffs early, but dominated everyone else on their schedule.

-2002 Bishop Carroll. They essentially fell victims to having the '01 and '03 teams around them.  BC was 12-2 and lost to WPIAL power, Rochester 21-19 at states.

-2009 Bellwood-Antis.  Bellwood gave Bishop McCort all they could handle in the District Title. The Blue Devils blew out arch-rival, Tyrone in Week 1. They finished the season 11-1

-2008 Bishop McCort. This was essentially the 2009 State runner up team with some more weapons. They had a tougher road than '09 basically.

-2008 Central. The Dragons of Central posted a great season in 2008. Led by the all everything Lucas Runk, they won District Six and fell to Wilmington in states.

-2000 Westmont. This team ran through the LHAC 9-0, earning the top seed in the district before falling to Tyrone in the second round 14-0.  Regarded as the best Westmont team of the 2000's, no questions asked.

-2011 Penns Manor. The Comets had a dream season in 2011 that included a state final four berth.
