D6 Sports Network Twenty Greatest Teams of the 2000's. #6

6. 2001 Bishop Carroll

The Scoop-The 2001 Bishop Carroll Huskies had another solid season under Coach Craig Sponsky.  The used the spread rushing attack and used it well. The Huskies shared the LHAC Championship with Forest Hills. They avenged the previous season's District Championship by smacking Windber 35-14 at Mansion Park. Bishop Carroll also defeated #7 on this list during the season.  This team could run the Football, and that was the name of their game.  Chad Schilling led the area in rushing and scoring for his senior year with 2,134 yards and 35 Touchdowns.  He was the key to the Husky offense.  Now if that wasn't enough, Nate Crookshank was just as dangerous.  He is a true dual threat and one of the best on this list.  He rushed for 834 yards and 13 touchdowns this season. He also passed for 966 yards.  The Huskies had a lethal defense as well.  This was a great team that went 12-2 after falling to WPIAL power Rochester in the State Semifinals.

The Stars-Chad Schilling's season led him to first team all state honors.  Nate Crookshank went on to play at Slippery Rock in Division II.  He started for four seasons and holds some passing records for Slippery Rock still standing today. Anthony Piccioni went on to play Football for the Naval Accademy.  Tyler Laverick was a first team all state selection while leading the area in tackles.

The Argument-This BC team set the tone for years to come. They had the deadly rushing attack that is rivaled by few on this list.  Schilling was a great high school running back and he put on a fantastic season.  Crookshank's versatility made him one of the better players in the 2001 season.  They won a share of the LHAC, they won Districts, and they lost to a very good Rochester team. This team can hang around with any team on this list, there is no doubt about it.
