D6 Sports Network Twenty Greatest Teams of the 2000's. #15

15. 2010 Johnstown

The Scoop-The 2010 and 2011 Johnstown High Football teams are basically the same team. They relied on many of the same players and had very similar results. My fundamental determining factor to pick 2010 was that Johnstown's 2010 team came out and dominated when nobody really expected them to. They may be the most athletic team on this countdown as they had a bevy of weapons that could beat you at any given moment. They also had star power across the field. Gervon Simon's junior season was one to remember as he burst on the scene and made a huge impact. He along with fellow junior, Alkwan Williams headlined the paper and highlight reels all season long. The Trojans receiving corps of Williams, Dwight Andrews,Da'Quan Minter,Mark Watson, and Calvin Anderson is something that may never be matched in our area again.. They had 5 Wide Recivers with 20 catches or better, an unreal feat for a High School team.  The line featured two division one players and overwhelming size that blew teams off the line. The defense was fronted by one of the best Linebackers to ever pass through the district in Alkwan Williams. The term "Man among Boys" never applied to anyone more than Williams. You could pick that kid out right away, and was a force in all facets of the game. The 9-1 regular season featured impressive wins over Forest Hills and Bishop McCort, often thorns in the Trojans side. They ran over Bellefonte in the AAA championship and looked poised for a run.  Johnstown ultimately faltered to a very good Clearfield team.It was Johnstown's first game against a AAA team all year and its hard to imagine that it did not play a factor. This team woke up the tradition of the Trojans past as they pretty much rolled through the LHAC unlike they ever have before.

The Stars-The 2010 Johnstown team was led by a host of stars.  DaJour Morris was a senior offensive and defensive linemen that garnered a scholarship to Akron.  Calvin Anderson was another senior star that factored on offense, but excelled most on defense.  He led the state with 11 interceptions and earned first team all state honors leading to a spot at Slippery Rock.  The Junior classed was also star studded. Gervon Simon put together another successful season in 2011 that earned him a Division One stint at Army. Alkwan Williams was well known throughout recruiting circuits for some time, and ended up at Temple University in the Big East. He went on to First Team All State honors as a senior. Brock Eisenhuth was another staple of the big offensive line and will be playing at Youngstown State.  There are not many teams from the area that can boast the amount of college talent as this team possessed.

The Argument-Johnstown's 2010 team should be on this list for the talent they had. It just seemed they would put together a bigger run than they did. They would have been a great for AA and A, but Johnstown is a AAA school in a AA conference.  That without a doubt hurt them come playoff time. I think had they been challenged more, it could have been a different story for this team. They ran through the LHAC and restored pride to Johnstown Football and put a buzz in the city. This team may be higher on some people's list or not on anyone's list at all,but I feel this is where they belong.  They deserve to be mentioned among the best teams of the 2000's, and its hard to argue that. They had 10 wins and 4 Division One Prospects. The talent and success was there to be one of the best teams of the 2000's
